I swear by this city, Makkah

আমি এই নগরীর শপথ করি

And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city

এবং এই নগরীতে আপনার উপর কোন প্রতিবন্ধকতা নেই।

And [by] the father and that which was born [of him]

শপথ জনকের ও যা জন্ম দেয়।

We have certainly created man into hardship

নিশ্চয় আমি মানুষকে শ্রমনির্ভররূপে সৃষ্টি করেছি।

Does he think that never will anyone overcome him

সে কি মনে করে যে, তার উপর কেউ ক্ষমতাবান হবে না

He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance

সে বলেঃ আমি প্রচুর ধন-সম্পদ ব্যয় করেছি।

Does he think that no one has seen him

সে কি মনে করে যে, তাকে কেউ দেখেনি

Have We not made for him two eyes

আমি কি তাকে দেইনি চক্ষুদ্বয়

And a tongue and two lips

জিহবা ও ওষ্ঠদ্বয়

And have shown him the two ways

বস্তুতঃ আমি তাকে দু’টি পথ প্রদর্শন করেছি।

But he has not broken through the difficult pass

অতঃপর সে ধর্মের ঘাঁটিতে প্রবেশ করেনি।

And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass

আপনি জানেন, সে ঘাঁটি কি

It is the freeing of a slave

তা হচ্ছে দাসমুক্তি

Or feeding on a day of severe hunger

অথবা দুর্ভিক্ষের দিনে অন্নদান।

An orphan of near relationship

এতীম আত্বীয়কে

Or a needy person in misery

অথবা ধুলি-ধুসরিত মিসকীনকে

And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion

অতঃপর তাদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হওয়া, যারা ঈমান আনে এবং পরস্পরকে উপদেশ দেয় সবরের ও উপদেশ দেয় দয়ার।

Those are the companions of the right

তারাই সৌভাগ্যশালী।

But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left

আর যারা আমার আয়াতসমূহ অস্বীকার করে তারাই হতভাগা।

Over them will be fire closed in

তারা অগ্নিপরিবেষ্টিত অবস্থায় বন্দী থাকবে।
